Raul Barraza Beltran
I was born on October 2, 1942 in Chacal, Temazula Durango. I came from a family of musicians. My father was in a group called “Los Chacalenos” and played the trumpet. As a child I always enjoyed music. I immigrated to the United States in the 1050’s. By the time I was 30, I was writing poetry and songs in Spanish. Songwriting has been a most rewarding hobby ever since. I won the Gold Record Prize from Festival de la Cancion Latina Americana de San Francisco in 1989. I still love the romantic regional music from Mexico and the recordings of Lupillo Rivera and Vicente Fernandez.
