Jan Johnson

My name is Jan Johnson. I was born in 1948. The first 22 years of my life were spent in Rockford, Illinois. As a child I played piano, organ and violin. In 1970 I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. As a young adult I directed both an adult choir and a band at church. I began writing poetry and music in 1997 after my father’s death. Through my grief, God gave me a beautiful gift.

Arizona has been my place of residence since 1973. The Lord has blessed me with a great husband and two wonderful sons. At the present time we have four grandchildren.

Four years ago I retired after a wonderful career as an elementary school teacher. Several months after retiring I began working as the Newborn Hearing Screen Coordinator in our Sierra Vista Hospital. Working with babies is lots of fun and very different from teaching. I do, however, tutor students several afternoons a week.

I took flying lessons many years ago and have my private pilot’s license. My husband and I have done a lot of country western line dancing. We enjoy being together. I also enjoy aerobics and sewing, and I’m learning to decorate cakes and will soon be enrolled in a class to learn to play a lap harp.

My goal is to continue to be a Christian example to my family, friends, former students and everyone I meet. I want Christ’s light to shine through me in all I say and do, and in the songs that I write.

WHILE THERE WERE SHEPHERDS
THE STAR BECAME A CROSS

ON THIS VERY NIGHT
WHERE IS CHRISTMAS?
