Braswell Deen

I am a retired Georgia Judge and grew up in Alma, Athens and Atlanta areas of Georgia. Served in 1st Marine Division in USMC, participating in Invasions of Peleliu and Okinawa, WWII, receiving the Purple Heart in the latter conflict. President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at UGA; Law Degree, practicing attorney 15 years in Alma. Represented Bacon County in the Georgia General Assembly for 8 years authoring the Georgia Woman Jury Bill in 1953. President of Alma Lions Club; President of Alma Credit-Trade Bureau; President of the Georgia Chess Association (one of two State Chess Experts when I went on the bench), won 2nd place in Georgia and Florida tournaments and represented Georgia in the National Chess Magazine.

Headed Alma/Bacon Co. Better Hometown Program which won 1st place in community improvement in Georgia and voted Man of the Year in Alma. Selected by the Jaycees as one of Georgia's Outstanding Five Young Men of the Year. Served 25 years on the Georgia Court of Appeals, participating in over 14,000 cases; served two years as Chief Judge. Lectured in over 12 states on the US Constitution and First Amendment issues. Authored 3 books: "Deen's List: ABCs on ADR," "Trial by Combat" and "Roots and Origins." Co-authored "Georgia's Appellate Judiciary." Mediator and Arbitrator for 13 years. Hobbies are Golf, Bridge, Cooking and Writing Poetry. I've written 7 published Songs. Wrote "Marie and Me, Let It Be!" on my honeymoon. I play the piano about 2 hours each day. I like to play the "Merry Widow Waltz." I enjoy classical music and also listening to Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Marie and I like to dance the Tango, Cha Cha, Samba, Conga, Charleston, Polka and doing such crazy twists as the Pretzel. We go to Octoberfest in Helen, Georgia for dancing, German music and food almost every year.
